Feb 10: A complaint was filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organisers of the show ‘India’s Got Latent’ for allegedly using abusive language on the show.
On the sidelines, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also confirmed that Guwahati Police had registered cases against five YouTubers, including Ranveer Allahbadia, for allegedly promoting obscenity.
Feb 17: Concerned authorities ordered the removal of all videos linked to the case and mandated the deactivation of the show’s official account until the inquiry is concluded.
Feb 18: Maharashtra Cyber Cell declined YouTuber Samay Raina’s request to record his statement via video conferencing in connection with the case. Raina was in the United States and had filed a plea, explaining that he would not be able to return to India before March 17 due to prior commitments.
Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia took their case to the Supreme Court, seeking to consolidate the multiple FIRs filed against them. The Supreme Court then weighed in on the matter, strongly condemning Allahbadia’s remarks. Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh described the comments as “dirty and perverted”.
