Honor teased it: A smartphone with a giggling, robotic camera arm

Honor’s latest concept is something straight out of sci-fi or maybe Pixar. Imagine a smartphone with a robotic camera arm that pops out, swivels, and yes, giggles while moving. It’s as if Wall-E decided to reinvent himself as your pocket companion.

Teased during the Magic 8 series launch, the so-called “Robot Phone” is a bold mix of playful and futuristic. Think of a regular smartphone just a bit chunkier that hides a gimbal-mounted lens capable of moving in nearly any direction. It’s the kind of oddball innovation tech has been missing lately.

The video teaser looks more like an animation showreel a simulation that hints at the concept but doesn’t show exactly how it will look in real life. In it, the little robotic eye helps pick outfits, films action shots from clever angles, entertains babies with peekaboo, and even gazes up at the stars like it’s pondering existence. It’s weirdly adorable, slightly eerie, and genuinely intriguing.

Honor says this isn’t just about a moving camera it’s part of a larger idea: building an “emotional companion” that senses and adapts to your needs. Backed by a $10 billion investment, it marks a big step into more expressive, human-like tech experiences.

We’ll find out more at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this March, where Honor plans to reveal actual prototypes. For now, fans can sign up for early access and maybe, a glimpse of the phone that wants to feel something.
