Elon Musk’s AI company xAI has rolled out an AI-powered online knowledge database that is being pitched as a Wikipedia replacement.

Grokipedia, as it is called, had about 8,85,279 articles as of Tuesday (October 28, 2025), with Musk promising that more updates and upgrades would be coming.

Grokipedia’s user interface is similar to that of Wikipedia. Users can search topics, explore subjects, navigate sub-sections, and review cited statements.

However, key parts such as licensed images, multi-media elements, hyperlinks to related topics, infographics, foreign language articles, etc. were conspicuously absent.

Right-wing users and conservatives users praised the way the online encyclopedia handled divisive subjects, urging their followers to use Grokipedia over Wikipedia.

However, tech outlet The Verge noted that multiple Grokipedia articles show signs of being scraped from Wikipedia, or copied sections of the subjects’ Wikipedia pages verbatim.

The Hindu came across one Grokipedia page where a statement at the bottom noted, “The content is adapted from Wikipedia, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License”.

“The goal of Grok and http://Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” posted Musk on X.

He said in another post that Grokipedia was open source, free of cost, and could be used by anyone.

Musk further promised that users will be able to ask Grok to add/modify/delete articles and it will either take action or refuse while providing its reasons.
