If you can’t wait for the rumoured touchscreen MacBook Pro laptop to arrive later in 2026, there’s a new third-party option that’ll enable to you prod and swipe about on your current MacBook Air and MacBook Pro model.
The new Intricuit Magic Screen, revealed at CES 2026, clips on to the display of a recent Apple laptop via magnets and is powered by a connection to the USB-C port. It includes a stylus with a hovering cursor multitouch gestures that enable natural pinch-to-zoom.
Judging by the animated images published to Intricuit’s website, it all looks quite intuitive and speedy. However, on the surface something like this has the capacity to be a little gimmicky, so it’ll all come down to the testing.
“Tap, swipe, and zoom with intuitive precision. Navigate with ease. Scrolling webpages and zooming in on photos is direct and effortless,” the company claims. “Comes ready with its own stylus that supports pressure sensitivity and stylus hover. It’s the affordable alternative to bulky drawing tablets and iPads.”
The magnetic clip-on seems quite straightforward, although the bones of the tech sits in the bottom next to the keyboard hinge. I’m the type of clumsy oaf who’ll forget slam the laptop shut and smash that bottom plate to smithereens. Anyway, the Magic Screen is going to launch initially on Kickstarter for $139. Apple has continually held off on releasing a touchscreen MacBook, instead guiding users towards the iPad range which can do a pretty good Mac impression these days thanks to iPadOS’ verge towards macOS over the course of several years and a highly capable Magic Keyboard case attachment. I’m not sure why people can’t just live with that option, but apparently the desire for a full touchscreen MacBook is still there – smudgy, fingerprinty screen ‘n all.
Recent reports have suggested the company might finally yield. According to the erstwhile Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the M6 MacBook Pro would be a significant revamp, including an OLED display and a touchscreen. Gurman’s sources said it would have “a reinforced hinge and screen hardware to prevent the display from bouncing back or moving when touched.” It’s on deck for 2026, but possibly 2027 according to the report. Until, then the Magic Screen might be worth a try!
