X hit by global outage; thousands of users affected

Elon Musk’s social ‌media platform X ​was down for ⁠thousands of users in the U.S. ‌on Wednesday, according ‌to Downdetector.com.

According to outage tracking website Downdetector, reports of the platform being inaccessible began spiking shortly after 8 p.m. IST, with users across various regions reporting issues with both the mobile application and the desktop website.

There were 14,366 ​reports ‌of issues with X as ‌of ​10:59 a.m. ET, according ⁠to Downdetector, which ‌tracks outages by collating status reports ‌from a ​number of sources.

On the mobile application, logged-in users found themselves unable to refresh their feeds, with the platform displaying an error message stating, “Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.” There was no immediate official statement from X regarding the cause of the outage.

The actual number of affected ‌users may differ from what is shown on Downdetector, as the ‌reports are submitted ​by users.

Reports of issues have come down to 96 as of 9:31 p.m. from 4,461 at 8:37 pm.
