Apple is reportedly working on a doorbell with facial recognition that could be released by the end of 2025. According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, the doorbell will wirelessly connect to a deadbolt lock and unlock the door.

The facial recognition tech might work like how the Face ID unlocks the iPhone. It could also be equipped with the company’s Secure Enclave chip that saves and processes the images.

There have been speculations that Apple is working on smart home devices that will form an ecosystem with Apple Intelligence.

It is also working on its first smart home camera, an Apple TV and a new HomePod mini.

The hardware company could also make the doorbell compatible with third party locking systems with its existing HomeKit smart locks while also partnering with a specific smart lock manufacturer.

The doorbell will compete against rivals like Amazon Ring and Google Nest but could attempt to lure users with a more binding commitment to privacy unlike Ring which was in the news for illegal surveillance.
