iPad Fold and iPhone Fold could reportedly debut together in 2026

Apple might finally be ready to join the foldables race — and in a big way. According to a research note by analyst Jeff Pu, the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to launch not just one, but two foldable devices in 2026. The first is the long-rumoured foldable iPhone aka the iPhone Fold, which is said to feature a 7.8-inch internal display. But what’s more surprising is that Pu also mentions a second device — a much larger 18.8-inch foldable, widely believed to be the iPad Fold. If accurate, this would mark Apple’s entry into the foldable tablet market, which is still in its early stages. Pu says both devices will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026, suggesting a late-year launch.

Apple’s foldable ambitions might be closer than we think — or not, depending on who you ask. Analyst Jeff Pu recently claimed the company plans to launch two foldable devices in 2026: a 7.8-inch iPhone Fold and a much larger 18.8-inch iPad Fold. If true, it would mark Apple’s boldest move yet in the emerging foldables category.

But not everyone’s convinced. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a consistent source for Apple insights, believes the iPad Fold is still a few years out, likely landing in 2028. His take? Apple will lead with the iPhone Fold, using it as a litmus test before committing to a more ambitious — and expensive — tablet-sized foldable.

Given Apple’s track record of waiting until new tech is fully baked, Gurman’s prediction feels more in line with the company’s usual playbook. Launching two foldables at once would be a rare risk — one that doesn’t quite match Apple’s traditionally cautious approach. A phased rollout, starting with the iPhone Fold, seems like the smarter bet.

Still, Jeff Pu is standing by his 2026 timeline. He claims that both the iPhone Fold and iPad Fold are slated to enter mass production in the fourth quarter of that year, setting the stage for a late-2026 debut. The iPhone Fold is expected to feature a 7.8-inch internal display with an aspect ratio close to current iPads — a move that could make life easier for developers, since many apps are already optimised for that screen format.

The iPad Fold, by contrast, is shaping up to be a far more ambitious device — reportedly approaching the size of two iPad Pros placed side by side. Leaks also hint at under-display Face ID, a feature that may be missing from the iPhone Fold due to space limitations.Pricing, as expected, won’t be for the faint-hearted. Early estimates peg the iPhone Fold at around $2,000 (roughly Rs 1,72,300), with regional import duties likely to inflate that figure further.Of course, the big question is whether both devices will actually see the light of day in 2026. Given Mark Gurman’s strong track record, his 2028 projection for the iPad Fold still carries serious weight.
