Meta hailed tech growth and digital infrastructure investments in India [File]

Meta introduced its internet subsea cable Project Waterworth, which will cross 50,000 km in length and bring enhanced connectivity to the U.S., India, Brazil, South Africa, and other locations whilst becoming the longest subsea cable project in the world.
The investment involves billions of dollars and is set to span across years, in a bid to bring AI access to users all around the world.
“For example, in India, where we’ve already seen significant growth and investment in digital infrastructure, Waterworth will help accelerate this progress and support the country’s ambitious plans for its digital economy,” said the company in an ‘Engineering at Meta’ website post.
Meta said it had already worked with partners in the past to develop more than 20 subsea cables. As part of Project Waterworth, more cables are set to be laid at depths of up to 7,000 metres. Measures will be taken to protect cables in high-risk areas where they are more prone to damage.
“Subsea cables projects, such as Project Waterworth, are the backbone of global digital infrastructure, accounting for more than 95% of intercontinental traffic across the world’s oceans to seamlessly enable digital communication, video experiences, online transactions, and more,” added Meta.
