Hey Sonos, it’s been a while! How have you been? The audio company has re-emerged with its first new product since 2024. However it mightn’t be one you buy yourself. The Sonos Amp Multi is an amplifier designed for expansive residential settings and will be most deployed by professional installers.
It offers eight 125 W amplified outputs that’ll drive up to 24 Sonos speakers. The option exists for stereo or mono sound for each output. The successor to the Sonos Amp also offers four independently controllable zones. You’ll be able to use a subwoofer and a Sonos Sub per zone too. Sonos is promising fast and predictable setup thanks to a unique audible chip triggered via the Sonos app. This way you won’t need to mess around entering PINs. From the app you’ll be able to manage zones, sources and outputs. The Amp Multi is also adding a version of its ProTune for manual sound optimisation.
In terms of performance, Sonos says: “An innovative combination of highly efficient GaN power architecture with Class-D post-filter feedback (PFFB) delivers added accuracy, dynamic control, and thermal performance efficiency across every zone. This gives clients a beautifully crisp sound system that operates silently without fans and remains stable over long periods of use.”
It’s the first Sonos product since the company launched the Arc Ultra soundbar in late 2024. The company has been through a tumultuous time in the last couple of years. A disastrous app relaunch, a first set of headphones that didn’t live up to the hype and the loss of a CEO as a result of it all. This is essentially the first Sonos product of the new era.
“Sonos Amp is the most widely used two-channel streaming amplifier in residential installation because it’s powerful, dependable, and intuitive,” said Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos. “Amp Multi takes that same philosophy and applies it to larger systems. It makes ambitious designs more efficient to build and install, and easier to live with.”
