Surprise, gamers. Valve just launched the first-ever Black Friday Steam sale, and you know what that means: massive discounts on figurative tons of PC games. You can head over to SteamPowered.com to look around, but Valve’s Steam Deck handheld is certainly the star of the show today. The base model has a rare discount, from $400 down to just $319.20 until Saturday.
This is the OG Steam Deck, and the unupgraded version, which is now showing its age with an AMD Ryzen Zen 2 APU. It also has a smaller, dimmer 7-inch screen and a slightly smaller battery than the revised Steam Deck OLED, which is pointedly not on sale, as well as less space at just 256GB of storage. All that said, just over 300 bucks is a fantastic price for a machine that can play most of the games on Steam without issue, and runs SteamOS for stability and smoothness. You might want to pick up a MicroSD card or a new SSD to boost that storage for bigger 3D games.
If you’re looking for something a little newer, you should absolutely check out the Lenovo Legion Go S, which is also on sale. This is the first non-Valve handheld gaming PC to run SteamOS out of the box instead of Windows, along with sporting a newer processor, larger storage, a bigger, more high-res screen, longer battery life…you name it. Normally $650, Best Buy is offering it for $200 off today, making it an excellent alternative to the Steam Deck OLED at 100 bucks less.
All eyes are on Valve for the moment, which has rather stolen Microsoft and Asus’ thunder after the release of the ROG Ally Xbox. That handheld is Microsoft’s answer to the Steam Deck, complete with a new, sleeker Windows interface for smaller gaming devices. That Xbox Fullscreen Experience (it’s Windows, not Xbox, but whatevs) is now available on all handhelds, and in testing for laptops and desktops. But while there’s no new model of the Steam Deck in the near future, gamers are salivating at the new Steam Machine desktop/mini-PC/console thingy and the Steam Frame VR headset, both scheduled for release in early 2026.
