Samsung and Vivo have launched their respective foldable phones in India with an aim to democratise this novelty form factor. While Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is into its seventh generation while Vivo X Fold 5 is just the second phone from the Chinese smartphone maker.

Both, Samsung and Vivo have stressed upon making their foldables more refined with a reduced body weight and dimensions while simultaneously scaling upon generative AI features to make these multitasking phones more productive.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 on July 9 while the Vivo X Fold 5 arrived on July 14 in India. Let’s compare how these two foldable phones appear on table:

Vivo X Fold 5

The Vivo X Fold 5 has a 6.53 inch AMOLED cover display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits peak brightness. The main screen measures 8.03 inch AMOLED with similar refresh rate and peak brightness. The cover screen is being protected by second gen Armor glass.

Vivo X Fold 5 claims to be 9.2 mm when folded and 4.3 mm when opened. It also claims a weight of 217 grams.

The Vivo X Fold 5 holds a 6,000 mAh battery, largest on any foldable, along with an 80 W charger. It also supports 40 W wireless charging.

Vivo X Fold 5 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB UFS 4.1 storage. It operates on Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15.

Vivo X Fold 5 will have a 50 MP VCS bionic main camera, a 50 MP ZEISS telephoto camera 3x optical zoom and up to 100x HyperZoom along with a 50 MP ultrawide lens. The X Fold 5 has a 20 MP front lens on the cover screen and a 20 MP on the main display.

The Vivo X Fold 5 starts at ₹1,49,999.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung has done some improvement in the Fold 7 design and now it claims a weight of 215 grams. The phone is 8.99mm thick in folded state while 4.2mm being unfolded.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 has an of 8 inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with 2,600 nits peak brightness and a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz. The cover display is of 6.5 inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with similar brightness and refresh rate.

The cover screen of the phone gets Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection while the back has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 ships with a 4,400 mAh battery and it supports 25 W charging along with wireless charging option. It is IP48 rated for dust, water and immersion.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 sports a 200 MP main camera along with a 12 MP ultrawide which acts as macro too and a 10 MP telephoto lens. The cover screen holds a 10 MP selfie lens while the inner display front camera has been increased to 10 MP.
